Chess Board Setup

Keeping it Simple

Chess Board

With the chess board in front of you, the square on your far right in the row closest to you
should be a light color.  Hence, the phrase, "white on right". Due to the layout of the chess board, this applies to both sides.

Chess Pieces

Another important setup rule is that the Queen must also be on its own color which means
that the light Queen must be on a light square and a dark Queen on a dark square.  This, of course, means that the opposing Kings and Queens will be facing each other
.

The following is the layout of the chess pieces:

  Player 1

Rook Knight Bishop Queen King Bishop Knight Rook
Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn

Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn Pawn
Rook Knight Bishop Queen King Bishop Knight Rook

  Player 2
